How Popular Are Gas Scooters?

By Mike Scott

There are different types of scooters; those that are powered by human power (foot-powered), electric scooters and gas scooters. The technology that powers scooters has evolved greatly in the last few decades. Scooters first emerged in Taiwan in the 1920s. They were invented as a response to the Industrial revolution which was sweeping through this part of the world. Many workers were commuting to work by foot and public means and this was not convenient at all.

In the West, scooters have been used primarily for commuting for short distances and also for recreational purposes. Other parts of the world use them primarily for commuting to and from every place. Because of the shaky world economy and the high gas prices in many parts of the world, many working class people have been hurting. Car prices have also been climbing making cars unaffordable for many working class people in many Third World economies and emerging economies. The advent of gas scooters have become a welcome phenomenon in many places as they are both affordable and easy to maintain.

Gas scooter technology has become sharper and more innovative in the last decade. Scooters have had a humble beginning, starting off as foot-powered then pedal-mechanism engines. Today, gas scooters are much prefered because they can save on the high price of gas. Let us look at why they are popular:

Affordability Gas scooters are popular because they are quite affordable by many standards. In many countries, the prices of cars are not within the reach of the middle cars. This is also because of the state of the world economy. Scooters are an altenative which is not only affordable but easier to maintain. It is now possible for middle class workers to afford scooters to commute to and from work.

Fuel efficient Because the scooters use gas as their primary fuel, there is no need to worry about the price of gas. This is a welcome relief because the high prices of gasoline have been especially high. Many families have been reporting financial hardship due to this and have been seeking altenatives. One of the best altenative to gasoline is gas scooters.

Cute Other than the aspect of fuel efficiency and affordability, gas scooters are also cute in appearance. They have been modeled as a cross between a bicycle and a regular motor cycles but with a twist. They have more roomy middle part and more leg room. In their earlier days, scooters were thought to be only popular with the older generation. But in recent times, the younger commuters have been purchasing scooters at a breathtaking rate. This is because they can suffice for short distance commutes and outdoor recreational gatherings. In the summer months, scooters can be especially ideal for transportation.

Scooters have some disadvantages. One of them is that they cannot be used for long distances. Another discomfort is that they cannot be ideal when the weather is bad. During rainy or stormy days, it is a great inconvenience to commute with a scooter especially if you need to stay dry. - 21396

Tips On Scooter Maintenance

By Steven Micheal Mihajlov

Scooter Maintenance is just as important as maintaining your car or home. If you want your stuff to last long and avoid the high cost of replacement, preventive maintenance is a must. Here is some ideas on maintaining your scooter.

Changing your oil regularly is perhaps the most important maintenance item. Besides checking your oil levels regularly, it is a good idea to change the oil every 1000 miles. This is the most economical way to keep your engine running efficiently and continually. Changing the oil of your transmission is also recommended every 2000 miles or 6 months. Your owners manual will give you suggestions on proper scheduling.

Checking your tire pressure is perhaps the easiest step in maintaining your scooter. It is important to check your pressure regularly and maintain the suggest tire pressure from your owners manual. Since scooters only have two wheels, low tire pressure could lead in losing control of your moped scooter more easily thus causing possible injuries.

Ensuring the scooter is properly assembled is often ignored when doing maintenance checks. Joints and hinges could become loose during operation, so it is a good idea to check and correct looseness prior to riding your scooter. It could be a good habit to check bolt tightness more regularly than the suggest 1000 miles or 6 months standard maintenance schedule.

Not all scooters are exactly the same, therefore checking your owners manual for your scooter in necessary. It will give the specifics on changing your oils, air filters, spark plugs, tire pressure and other maintenance tips. Regular scooter maintenance will prolong the life of your scooter thus preventing you from expensive replacement or repair cost. - 21396

Consider A New Solar Air Compressor

By Ricky Green

We rely on electricity every day. Most of the fuel we burn comes from fossil fuels in the form of natural gas or oil. The problem with that is that fossil fuels are harmful to the environment. It is great when companies, individuals, and scientists go out of their way to develop green technology that does not have an adverse effect on the planet.

People all over the world are researching and investigating new ways to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. Many independent companies are doing what they can to help. One innovation of note is the solar powered air compressor.

You've probably heard of an air compressor, even if you don't know exactly what it does. An air compressor powered by solar power does the same thing as a regular air compressor, but it is powered by the sun instead of fuel or electricity.

You may think that is a great idea, but still not be sure what on earth is an air compressor and why would anyone need one? Air compressors literally compress air into such a small space that it becomes highly pressurized. The air is then used to drive motors and machinery. Air compressors are often used to power drills used by oil and gas companies drilling in remote places where electricity is not readily available. Solar power makes powering these air compressors much easier.

It may seem odd to use solar powered drills to reach fossil fuels, but that's how it is done. This use of solar power may only be a small step toward a greener environment; however, it is doing something that counts. Solar powered air compressors generate power only from the solar panels, so they cannot be run at night. The best thing about a solar air compressor is that it is green technology and moves us toward greater environmental responsibility.

Perhaps you do not need a giant solar powered drill, but there are number of alternative uses for solar powered technology. The ability to harness solar power has been used to charge and run items as small as a phone or laptop. There are even smaller solar air compressors with run smaller drills and machinery.

A solar powered air compressor is not much different in function from a standard air compressor. The chief difference is that power is generated from the sun instead of fossil fuels or electricity. Solar powered air compressors are sold with everything you need to get them running. - 21396

Learning About Car Speakers

By Colin Samuels

If you were to walk into any store that carries audio equipment for cars and ask about getting speakers, it is very likely that you are going to be overwhelmed by the choices. To avoid some of the confusion and to help you select the perfect speakers for your car, it would be an excellent idea to learn all that you can about speakers and which ones will be the best fit for your particular vehicle.

Now before you make the choice to purchase speakers for your car you will be in a really great position if you knew all that you could about what kind of speakers are available out there. You should also be able to prioritize items that you want to consider besides pricing.

There are a number of different speaker types that are designed to turn the inside of a car into a mobile concert hall. The options out there include:

A coaxial speaker is also commonly referred to as a three-way speaker. These types of speakers are a great purchase because they are actually multiple speakers that have been built into a single frame. Three-way speakers are quite affordable and are also very simple for even a novice to install. The only real bad point about getting a three-way speaker is that they are not very flexible.

Separates " These are also known as component systems and they will typically include a tweeter and woofer. They should come with an external crossover. To install, the woofer would be placed in the hole made by the factory in the kick panel or door. The tweeters are more flexible on placement, but are commonly mounted near the top corner of the door panel or in the dash.

Horns are excellent speakers that are very well known for their efficient sound-directing qualities. Horns with speakers are at a much higher priced than other types of speakers, however, you will be getting rid of the need to purchase tweeters. Getting these speakers professionally installed would be an excellent idea. This way you will be getting the very best possible sound coming out of your speakers.

Mid-bases " This type of speaker can go lower in frequency than others. They do mount easily in the doors and are part of a three-way system that includes a tweeter and a mid. They do require rather complex crossovers to install, which could demand the use of a pro.

Aside from the actual types of speakers, there are several other items that you need to consider before you decide to make your final purchase. They include some of the following:

Power " Make sure speakers, especially woofers, have roughly the same power handling ability that the amp driving them has.

Loudness sensitivity is also extremely important when it comes to making the choice to purchase speakers. This is going to help you figure out how loud your speaker can get and still have great sound quality.

The size of a speaker is a very important factor in deciding what speakers you will purchase. You want to make sure that your speakers are going to fit within the confines of your car. For example, tweeters need to be rather small and need to fit properly so that the sound will flow properly in the car.

Enclosures are also an important consideration for your car. If you have woofers that are mounted in a free space, they are going to need special enclosures so that the sound quality of your music remains clear.

As you can plainly see, there really is a lot more to purchasing speakers for your car than you might have imagined. Having the right speakers means the difference between having a ride that has a great sound system and having a ride that falls short of how wonderful it could be. - 21396

Help Your Community, Become A Volunteer Firefighter.

By Patrick E. Lambert

Volunteer work is one of the best ways one can help out his or her own community. With more and more organizations offering part time opportunities for volunteer work it has become easier to pick an area in which you feel you can make a difference. One such field a person can choose is volunteer firefighter work. But before you decide you must ask yourself if you are ready. Becoming a volunteer firefighter takes a lot of dedication and first a person must complete many steps.

Before you take any steps towards becoming a volunteer firefighter you must decide whether or not you are able to make such a commitment. Volunteer firefighters make a commitment not only to the fire department and the community but to themselves. The program is very rigorous and difficult, if you honestly don't think you have what it takes then don't apply. It is better to not join at all than breaking a commitment you made and not going through with the regimen.

It is best that before you start the process you be in good physical condition. To be a firefighter it takes amazing amount of strength and a near endless supply of stamina. If you feel you need work in these areas you can perform more cardiovascular work outs such as jogging or bike riding, as well as weight training to build some muscle. Also it is important that you get yourself checked out by a doctor. Anyone with any serious medical conditions should proceed with caution.

When you think you are ready to begin, contact your local fire department. Call them on their non-emergency number and ask to speak to the station officer. This person can get you started on becoming a volunteer firefighter. They may even be able to set you up on a ride along in the fire truck. Its a great way to get a feel for the equipment and get an up close look on how the firefighters work together and what it takes to be one. Unfortunately not every fire department has training programs for volunteers. But with a little research over the internet you will be able to find the nearest fire station that accepts volunteers.

Once you contacted your local fire station and spoken to the station officer, like with any position you will have to fill out an application. You will also have to wait during a screening process. During this time they will perform a background check on you and determine if you are suitable for the job based on your record.

If you pass the background check you can begin the program. The minimum requirement for the program is that you complete 110 hours of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) certified course. The actual course might differ from state to state. You will be an official volunteer fire fighter upon completion of the course.

You will do a great service to your neighborhood partaking in the volunteer firefighters program. You will be saving countless lives as well as inspiring others to lend a hand and do some volunteer work as well. - 21396
