Do You Lend Your Vehicle to Uninsured Drivers?

By Graham McKenzie

Sometimes merely qualifying for car insurance is not enough. Yes it's great to have a policy that covers you and your vehicle in case of an accident or theft, but when you are not driving all those scenarios are thrown out the window. Here's why

Anytime somebody drives your car without a valid license or insurance and they are involved in an accident, the insurance company is not liable to pay for the damages.

Finding the right car insurance company is a complicated manner. It involves several phone calls and/or visits to the main office. This was especially difficult for rural residents in the old days. It's obviously easier today, but many people still view the process as a hassle.

Brokers have become an essential component in the insurance process. They were hired in the old days to reach customers who could not reach the main office. Today they still serve a strong purpose, although the internet is running a few of them out of business.

Like any business, insurance companies only stay in business by making a profit. They are not overjoyed to discover their clients have either missed a payment or two, or are constantly late. So consequentially, they must demand full payment by the due date or an inactive insurance policy will result.

Outstanding brokers not only serve the consumer when signing up for the policy, but also in a time of need. If the client is involved in an accident, the broker should step up to the challenge, handling the claim quickly and effectively.

Usually they do, and consequently the policy holder forms a close bond with the broker. They continue to do business for the rest of their lives. The policy holder usually passes down the broker to his children and recommends the broker to others.

Some people consider it tragic that this type of relationship is dying out. The main reason is the internet. Brokers are making the move to online insurance, where consumers can compare quotes with a click of a mouse. Switching to online insurance often saves consumers between ten and fifteen percent of their annual insurance premium, so the savings are much welcomed. - 21396

Cheap Car Insurance for Sports Cars

By Stacy Fox

U.S. cheap insurance for sports cars can be difficult to find. The cars themselves are high ticket items and they are very expensive to repair if an accident occurs. Additionally, it is a well established fact that these owners are high risk drivers and the insurance companies charge higher rates as a result.

Insurance companies assume that the people who buy sports cars are going to drive very fast. That causes wrecks. And, a wrecked sports car is expensive to repair.

Because of this, sports cars dominate the list of expensive vehicles to insure. The highest cost vehicle to insure is the 2009 Nissan GT-R. This $76,000 vehicle costs on average just over $2500 to insure.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Ford Mustang G-T is the least expensive sports car to insure.

But, the lowest price new vehicle of all to insure is the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Beyond claims and the price of the car, insurers also look at the horsepower to weight ratio and the 0 to 60 miles per hour times. These things distinguish a high-performance car from a mid performance one.

There are personal factors that go into the price calculation as well. Young people driving sports cars are very expensive. Your gender, marital status, and miles driving the car are factored in as well. Some insurance companies want your odometer reading or require that you put in a GPS system so they can monitor your driving habits.

In general, straight liability insurance (coverage for the other party only) doesn't depend on the make of your own car. The exception is for sports cars. These cars are designed for speed and insurers expect that drivers will drive them fast, causing more accidents. If you want protection for your own vehicle, you will need to get a comprehensive policy.

So that is the lowdown on U.S. cheap car insurance for sports cars. - 21396

Online Legal Advice On Road Law

By Johann Ken Flanders

There will always come a time where you will be in need of legal advice. Whether this advice is for motoring, your rights, your property or finance, you will always be searching for some form of knowledge.

With the advent of the internet, however, most of the sources of knowledge have gone online. Most of us trust the internet real well, and there are some excellent resources that have come up in the recent times. However, legal information still is hard to find, and that is probably one of the very few areas that the internet has not entirely taken over. But that does not mean there is no place for us to talk about it!

Things like free legal motoring advice online are not very difficult to get, provided you know where to look. Motoring advice is one of those things we constantly are in need of, and each time, running to the lawyers will cost us a bomb! For a lot of us, the internet is the first level of information, and if the experts suggest that we should head down and consult a lawyer, we do that. But most of the time, we have people who have been through similar situations like ours, and the solution that they found might be perfectly suited to us too!

The best place to find legal motoring advice online will be on some legal forums which are free. There are a few paid legal advice sites too, but those are the next level. Most of the times the legal forums are moderated by real lawyers and attorneys, and the kind of information traded there will put a real legal office to shame! Ranging from personal experiences that people have had to the kinds of solutions they found to it, to the fines they paid, and even the different loopholes which they found in the system - they are all shared freely and available for everyone to see on these forums. The best of them even have places where members can post a question and get it answered for free by one of the forum's resident experts.

There is however other places online that you can find free legal motoring advice. These places are dedicated to motoring accidents, driving etc, although finding such websites is the key. If you are at ease with the internet then finding the websites should not be difficult and you will then be able to ask your questions easily. - 21396

The Duesy The American Luxury Limousine of US Movie Stars

By Shaw U. Allard

If there is one automobile that involves fantasy of vintage luxury and fame it's the Duesenberg from which the phrase "It's a Doozie" was born and derived. What are the origins and background of this most regal form of transportation?

What is interesting and of great note , is that it was not that early innovators of this fine automotive tradition - the pair of the two world renowned car racing Dusenberg brothers - that resulted in this ultra fine luxury stable of products - but rather business and marketing staff and future factory owners. Indeed the model that the Duesenbeg family produced was a rather staid product. Their "Model A" was introduced at the 1920 New York Auto Show and then went into full production in December 1921. This Dusenberg Model "A" was from the designed from the same name racing vehicle that had won the French Grand Prix race , where its innovative hydraulic brakes had proved to be the most decisive factor in the automotive racing circuit. The A was of a most durable design and overall construct that it would later appear in the Indianapolis 500 mile race as late as 1934 .

Sure there had been vehicles on the racing circuit and circuits that had used "in-line" 8 cylinder motors but these were largely test and experimental vehicles subject only the tinkering of automotive mechanics and their racing masters. Highly expensive and more temperamental, it was the American Duesenberg Motor Company that served to introduce this powerful automotive industry innovation to production vehicles. It was the Dusenberg Motor Company that introduced the "8" to America not Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company.

When E.I. Cord had purchased the Duesenberg factory works and company name the company had previously had a product - the lackluster Model A. Perhaps this name was a derivative of the standard of the time - the Ford "Model A'. Perhaps not. Still for any of a number of reasons the Duisenberg Model A had lackluster sales, and never really made much of an impact on the US auto market or export markets at all.

What happened to the Model A's ? The Dusenberg company continued production well into the 1920's while at the same time producing more exotic flagship J models. Approximately 650 were finished and delivered by the automotive works. It can be summarized and held that the car had an outstanding auto competition record - winning the French Grand Prix as well as fully three Indy 500's during the decade of the 20's. In addition the Model A actually had the world record for breaking the land speed record. The Dusenberg stable itself was the dominant name in American car racing during the 1920's. No doubt that helped the market place reputation of the Duesnenberg clan product line . The Model A had the record of a full 3000 non stop endurance event at average speeds of greater than 60 miles per hour. Tires of course not being the steel belted radials that we take for granted on our highways today were not the norm , and had to be changed on the racing track auto repair pit. Still all in all in spite of the achievements and products gleaned from the racing expertise and experiences of the two Duesenberg racing brother team it is the luxury touring motor cars that are in the mind of most automotive minds and memories not the more humble Duesenberg Model A motorcars. - 21396

Why Does My Garage Floor Crack When It Becomes Cold Outside?

By George Kerstainzer

It's that time of the year again. The icicles start appearing on the overhangs, snow is all over the ground, and you just noticed that your garage floor has a crack going down the center that's about the size of the San Andreas fault. Why does this always seem to happen in the winter, do you ask?

A Concrete Garage Floor Will Absorb Any Liquid

Your concrete garage floor acts like a very, very slow sponge. Any liquid that comes in contact with it will be soaked up, albeit slowly. Those of us who have changed their own oil know this as the smallest bit of motor oil will create a tiny, but permanent stain. All concrete garage floors are the same, so you're not alone here, either. Any garage flooring that has no cover will absorb water as well. Water doesn't sound very threatening, I know, as it would be a clear stain, right? Unfortunately, when the temperature gets low enough, water does something that many other chemicals don't do...

Water Is A Frigid Saboteur

It freezes. Although things generally contract when they become cold, water included, ice is obviously much more solid than water. Concrete is definitely much stronger than ice, of course, but having tiny pockets of ice throughout the concrete adds solidity where there generally is none. This makes the concrete garage floor a lot more rigid than it generally is. This rigidity is a very bad thing when the concrete begins to contract, as it naturally will when it becomes cold.

Moisture Is Always Incredibly Tenacious

Your first thought will be to always make sure the garage door is closed. That won't always help, though. Humidity is also in the air, and will find ways to seep in to the garage floor, no matter how well sealed it is. There is no such things as a waterproof garage (is there?), so every garage floor can be compromised by moisture, no matter how protected they seem. Moisture will also get to the concrete from the ground, on the underneath and the sides, but that largely depends on the area you are in, how often it rains, and if water tends to stand against the garage, as well as the height of your area's water table.

A Garage Floor Covering Can Prevent This Problem!

Garage floor coverings, such as mats and tiles, can help protect your concrete and keep it from cracking. Although there is really nothing you can do about the moisture that comes in from the sides and bottom of your concrete, that is really only a small portion of what you need to worry about. The majority comes from above. An epoxy garage floor coating will seal the top of your garage floor against moisture, keeping it out almost entirely. Even a garage floor covering such as a mat or tiles will help as they will absorb much of the moisture themselves.

Will A Garage Floor Covering Help If I Know Moisture Wasn't To Blame?

You will still see benefits, yes. With the exception of the big fireball in the sky, which has little effect on a covered garage, the majority of your garage floor's warmth is going to come from the ground. Using a covering or coating can help contain this warmth, which will make the garage floor stay warmer, and hopefully not crack. - 21396
