Luxury Car Hire: The Benefits

By Thierry Shoemacher

If you're going to be going on holiday soon, there's a good chance you'll want to hire a car. After all, there's something really satisfying about being able to drive your own BMW Roadster for a fun weekend or a romantic getaway, without all the trouble and expense of maintaining one in your name.

Every fantasy vacation needs a fantasy car to complete it, and choosing a luxury rental is the perfect way to top off your holiday. Whether it's a Mercedes you've been looking for, or you dream about a high performance Porsche, you'll pay less than you might expect and enjoy all the little luxuries that make driving on holiday worthwhile.

It's no harder to hire a luxury car than it is to choose a run of the mill car, but you'll find you get a good deal more out of the experience. Just remember to make sure you've got a drivers license in the language of the country where you're driving, plus as much other identifaction as you can find, like a passport or identification card, and your charge card or credit card.

In many cases, a prepaid voucher may also be required, or you can pay a cash bond based on the type of vehicle and how long you plan to rent it. Expect not to receive a refund on your bond for about two weeks, since many rental agencies don't keep cash on hand for safety reasons.

Don't just look at the big national chains or international car hire companies, either. There are plenty of smaller local companies that can offer a more personalized feel and really competitive rates at no increase in inconvenience.

Anyone who's tired of feeling like they're just another number should think about picking a company capable of offering the kind of personal service they want to see in a rental agency. You'll still get the opportunity to reserve in advance, even when traveling from far away, but you'll also get some great personal touches and a truly beautiful vehicle.

You can even choose to have your car delivered and collected, so there's no need to worry about when you're going to have to drop off the car and how you'll get to and from the rental agency. However, you'll want to keep an eye on your schedule, and remember that delivery and pick up may cause you to incur extra fees.

It doesn't matter whether you're someone who insists on the best every day, or you're interested in having a luxury getaway, complete with car, without the hassle and cost of having your own luxury vehicle - hiring a beautiful and luxurious car may be your best choice. You need to make sure you get the things you deserve, after all.

If you've ever imagined yourself having a fantastic time in an Audi TT Roadster or other beautiful luxury vehicle, just take that first step and learn what cars and options are available. It's easy to do if you have Internet access - in Australia or anywhere else, look for the kind of service you want and the kind of car you need with a simple online search. - 21396

One Race, No Wins: Honda Is Born

By James G. Pynn

By the middle of the 20th century, the mere notion that the automotive world would come to be dominated by a Japanese company was incomprehensible. Up to that point in history, the Japanese were know for manufacturing cheap tin toys and disposable trinkets. Indeed, most fans and industry insiders ridiculed their first forays into motorcycle manufacturing. It would not be an easy road for this fledgling company.

Soichiro Honda never set out to merely dominate the Japanese market. His goals were more global. "I knew that if I could succeed in the world market," Soichiro Honda once said, "then automatically it would follow that we [would lead] in the Japanese market." As early as 946, Soichiro Honda foresaw the need for affordable, fuel-efficient transportation. As a result, the first vehicle to roll off his assembly line was a 98 cc two-stroke motorcycle. Fittingly, this first two-wheeled vehicle was named "The Dream."

Failing to heed the advice of his financial advisers, Honda quickly overextended himself. He purchased an entire factory's worth of new manufacturing equipment without a viable commodity to pay for the cost. When the utilitarian, but bland Juno Scooter flopped in worldwide markets, Honda was virtually weeks away from filing for bankruptcy. What saved the company was not an outside financier or foreign interventionist. It was a race.

The chance of a Japanese bike placing, much less winning, at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race, were slim to none. Honda being something of an incorrigible gambler, defied the odds by focusing on a notion that was still in its infancy: branding. Honda was less interested in actually winning than in introducing the Honda motorcycle to a new generation of riders. Impressed by the ruggedness of the motorcycles and the determination of the riders, including the renowned Japanese rider, Naomi Taniguchi, fans began to take notice.

The gamble paid off, but not immediately. Rather than winning the race, Honda managed to win the hearts and minds of some of motorcycling's top riders. In light of increased international interest and orders, the looming bankruptcy faded into history as sales picked up. This reputation would come to be invaluable as Honda began to steer itself towards the manufacturing and perfection of the automobile. - 21396

Why You Need A Speed Camera Detector?

By Tom McMyers

The financial cost of incurring a speeding offence in the UK is expensive, and given the credit crunch it can be serious. The reality is that drivers today are monitored, pretty much, at every step.

Most people are aware of speed traps, although they pay little respect to them and drive in blissful ignorance! Unfortunately, this attitude isn't helpful because the rate of increase of speeding traps and speed cameras is growing - and growing fast! Speeding offences is a big revenue earner for the government, which you shouldn't forget.

When fighting speed cameras its worthwhile knowing how the enemy fights, so you are not just reliant on combatant technology, such as speed camera detectors. The most prevalent speed camera on the road is the Gatso which uses laser (like radar on a submarine) to calculate the speed the vehicle is driving. Other speed cameras in use, use road laid cables, or the most well known type use photographic technology. They can recognise your license plate, and determine the speed travelled between the two locations that took the pictures.

Worried and concerned? Well, that's probably a fair understanding right now. There are a multitude of technologies out there just looking for potential speeding offenders. The wise consideration is to purchase a speed camera detector, its a good investment.

There are two types of technology used in speed camera detectors. The first uses laser and radar detection capabilities, and the second uses a database of known locations of speed traps and cameras. As you can imagine, having a device that supports both is the best of both worlds.

There have been numerous debates about the validity and the legality of owning and using a speed camera detector. The fact is that these devices are presently legal. More importantly due consideration should be given to the awareness that they give you. Specifically they can make you more conscious about your speed and location, and probably therefore less likely to be in an accident.

There is some legislation that is being considered to limit radar jamming devices, but the future of all other types of speed camera detectors is not in question. So you should feel perfectly comfortable fighting against speed camera traps with your very own little speed camera detector friend. When purchasing a speed camera detector, keep in mind that there are often yearly fees with the types that update the speed camera database. It is a small price to pay for staying in the loop whenever new speed cameras are installed.

If you were buying a new PDA today, would you buy a regular one - or one with GPS navigation built in, and with a speed trap detector built in too? The reality is that as technology has evolved, it is now more accessible in lots of different equipment, including PDA's and mobile phones. If I had a device that could do all this, and warn me when I've broken the speed limit, I'd know what I'd buy!

If you already have one of these devices that informs you of your speed, when you've taken a wrong turn and when you're approaching a speed trap, then you'll know just how good they are. If you haven't got one, ask someone that has if they could survive without it now.

If you haven't got a speed camera detector, go and get one. Seriously, if you are a regular driver this will be a worthwhile investment for you. - 21396

Veggie Fuel

By Jack George

Did you know that biodiesel is the only alternative fuel approved by the Environmental Protection Agency?? Biodiesel is a clean burning, renewable fuel source that can be used in any diesel engine!! The process of producing biodiesel, involves converting vegetable oil or animal waste into biodiesel, by means of a processor.

One of the great things about using biodiesel is that you'll be helping both the environment and the agricultural community. Also biodiesel is much better for your car's engine and own personal health. What's more, you can make your own biodiesel and biodiesel processor from the comfort of your home. Everyone from advanced scientists, to your average Joes are taking notice of the countless benefits of making homemade biodiesel

One thing you may not realise is that biodiesel is actually better for your car's engine than regular diesel!! This is because biodiesel contains more lubricant properties and burns cleaner than other diesel and petroleum fuels. Another great advantage is that the emissions generate quite a satisfying smell

Why is biodiesel better for your own personal health than any other forms of fuel?? Regular diesel produces harmful exhaust emissions; these fumes pose problems to both the environment and the human body. Studies have shown that biodiesel is actually less toxic than table salt, and is as biodegradable as sugar!!

Did you know that homemade biodiesel is just as safe for your car as commercial biodiesel, and it much more economical; You can make your own biodiesel fuel for as little as 50 cents a litre

When mixing up your first test batch, you must make sure that you're using the correct amount of lye. You should use 4 grams of lye to every litre of unused vegetable oil; or 6 grams of lye for used oil. You can mix the ingredients using a regular home blender

The first thing you need to do when making a homemade biodiesel test batch is to get a big THICK mixing container; it gets hot!! Then add your lye and methanol, a little bit at a time. You need to then mix until the lye has fully dissolved. What you have left is known as methoxide!! Next you need to pre-heat the vegetable oil and add to the methoxide. Throw this in the blender on slow for about 30 mins, and allow to sit for 1 day. Your mixture should have thin liquid on the top and thick liquid at the bottom. If not you should retest the proportions of your mixture...

Making your own homemade biodiesel takes some practice, but once you've mastered the skill it can be very helpful. The knowledge you learn from making homemade biodiesel can be used to teach friends and family, or even make some additional money on the side. Who knows, eventually you might be able to start your own biodiesel business!! - 21396
