Learning About Car Speakers

By Colin Samuels

If you were to walk into any store that carries audio equipment for cars and ask about getting speakers, it is very likely that you are going to be overwhelmed by the choices. To avoid some of the confusion and to help you select the perfect speakers for your car, it would be an excellent idea to learn all that you can about speakers and which ones will be the best fit for your particular vehicle.

Now before you make the choice to purchase speakers for your car you will be in a really great position if you knew all that you could about what kind of speakers are available out there. You should also be able to prioritize items that you want to consider besides pricing.

There are a number of different speaker types that are designed to turn the inside of a car into a mobile concert hall. The options out there include:

A coaxial speaker is also commonly referred to as a three-way speaker. These types of speakers are a great purchase because they are actually multiple speakers that have been built into a single frame. Three-way speakers are quite affordable and are also very simple for even a novice to install. The only real bad point about getting a three-way speaker is that they are not very flexible.

Separates " These are also known as component systems and they will typically include a tweeter and woofer. They should come with an external crossover. To install, the woofer would be placed in the hole made by the factory in the kick panel or door. The tweeters are more flexible on placement, but are commonly mounted near the top corner of the door panel or in the dash.

Horns are excellent speakers that are very well known for their efficient sound-directing qualities. Horns with speakers are at a much higher priced than other types of speakers, however, you will be getting rid of the need to purchase tweeters. Getting these speakers professionally installed would be an excellent idea. This way you will be getting the very best possible sound coming out of your speakers.

Mid-bases " This type of speaker can go lower in frequency than others. They do mount easily in the doors and are part of a three-way system that includes a tweeter and a mid. They do require rather complex crossovers to install, which could demand the use of a pro.

Aside from the actual types of speakers, there are several other items that you need to consider before you decide to make your final purchase. They include some of the following:

Power " Make sure speakers, especially woofers, have roughly the same power handling ability that the amp driving them has.

Loudness sensitivity is also extremely important when it comes to making the choice to purchase speakers. This is going to help you figure out how loud your speaker can get and still have great sound quality.

The size of a speaker is a very important factor in deciding what speakers you will purchase. You want to make sure that your speakers are going to fit within the confines of your car. For example, tweeters need to be rather small and need to fit properly so that the sound will flow properly in the car.

Enclosures are also an important consideration for your car. If you have woofers that are mounted in a free space, they are going to need special enclosures so that the sound quality of your music remains clear.

As you can plainly see, there really is a lot more to purchasing speakers for your car than you might have imagined. Having the right speakers means the difference between having a ride that has a great sound system and having a ride that falls short of how wonderful it could be. - 21396
