Helpful Tips To Repair A Badly Scratched CD

By Rob King

Today CD's and DVD's are the most common way of storing data. This is because of advancement in technology which has led to a reduction in its cost that even common man affords buying them. But we should handle them with care. In the case that your brother is using your Disc and ruins it in a party with his friends you must know how to fix a scratched CD or DVD.

These are simple steps that can be followed and needs things that are readily available in the market. The three steps to be followed are given in detail.

The first step to be done in the process is cleaning of the scratched CD. Use a damp cloth to clean the scratched CD or DVD. Make sure that the cloth is damp and not wet as it could damage the data comprised within the Disc. There is a specific method of cleaning to save the Disc from damage. It is to clean the CD or DVD from the inner to the outer edge in a straight line pattern.

Now for fixing the scratch you can either use white tooth paste or a polish or any kind of cleaner made out of plastic. Find the areas that have the scratches by placing the CD in sun light (avoid direct sunlight) or near any other source of light at a slightly tilted angle so that the scratches are clearly visible.

After the cleaning is done the CD has to be fixed. This is done with the help of toothpaste or any other type of cleaner that is made from plastic. Sometimes this might be little severe, so it is advisable to carefully wipe the scratches alone.

The CD or DVD is held in sun light or any other kind of artificial light as this will reveal the scratches more predominantly. And this helps us to work on specific areas and clean them up. This will also avoid risks to the other areas.

The other way to overcome a repaired or scratched CD is to use some type of repair kit. It is generally not advisable to use chemicals that are available at home. When there is no time or no other way the household chemicals can be used to fix but otherwise there are kits available for repairing it. These contain chemicals that are not very severe and help in cleaning. The kit also consists of special type of wipes that is appropriate for cleaning the discs. Since the kit is exclusive for the CDs they come with solution and wipes that are good for the discs and would not damage it further.

One should always know how to fix a scratched CD or DVD which can avoid unnecessary visits to the service stations. - 21396
