Why The Motorcycle Lift Is Usefull In Many Ways

By Brian Kirkland

The motorcycle lift is in many respects similar to that of its car lift counterpart. However I received a number of emails asking to go over the basics of these so never one to disappoint, I shall go right ahead.

Anyone working in the motorbike industry whether its repairs, sales or modifications will have used one of these useful tools. A motorcycle lift is a lift table that has been created with the sole use to raise motorcycles of the ground for inspection etc. The advantage these lifts bring to any mechanic or budding motorbike modder is that once the motorbike has been raised to a certain level, the person inspecting the bike will not have the usual neck or back straining commonly related to ground repairs, so from a human health standpoint they are great as they remove the danger of back injuries.

Of course, as you can well imagine, a motorcycle lift is significantly smaller than a car lift and this in itself has certain benefits, in that they can be easily stored in a garage or shed. Because of the ease with which home owners can store these, they make for potentially huge savings in that they allow for repairs to be carried out at home, thus avoiding costly repairs by a mechanic. Even basic motorcycle maintenance such as oil changes are incredibly easy when using a motorcycle lift, as is regular cleaning.

For the most part, motorcycle lifts are constructed from stainless steel and powered with the use of hydraulics, thus making them suitable to safety lift weights of up to 680kg.

Of course, because of the diversity of motorcycles, lifts nowadays come in a variety of models although most are designed purely for standard motorcycles. However, there are those available which are designed in such a way they can be adjusted to different lengths for the purpose of lifting longer than standard motorcycles such as choppers, dragsters and Harley Davidson.

Just like car lifts, the bike lift must be taken and used in a safe manner, the user must always respect the machinery and should always be taking a cautious approach when using them. You should always make sure that when you are raising your bike, have the motorcycle engine switched off and make double sure that you have secured the security locks on the lift so that the bike does not de-stabilize itself when getting raised off the ground, always make sure the bike is tightly fitted into its correct place.

If you feel as though you are in the market for a decent motorcycle lift whether it is for business or personal use, you should always develop a healthy habit of regularly keeping an eye on all the nuts and bolts to make sure that it is in top condition. This maintenance can make your lift stay functional for many years.

Before you buy, find out the requirements are for your bike and the lift you buy. Make sure you only spend your hard earned cash on a bike lift that ticks all your personal boxes so that when you have it you can make the most of it and use it to its fullest potential.

Lastly; as with car lifts, professional motorcycle lifts require more frequent maintenance than do their domestic counterparts so here again, it?s advantageous to have a qualified mechanic in charge of maintaining it. While the professional lifts do cost more, both to buy and maintain, they soon pay for themselves, particularly if you?re in the motorcycle repair business. - 21396
