Cars - The Right Way
Welcome to the wonderful world of cars. As most people know, they are one of the major purchases we will make during our lifetime. We want to be diligent in that purchase. Before making that purchase for the first time I would suggest doing some research. There are many wonderful online resources for this.
Buying a vehicle can be extremely exciting and extremely intimidating. Knowing your budget, a down payment (if any), and the make/model you are looking for can help tremendously. The one thing you do not want to do is go in half cocked and get talked into something you do not really want and cannot possibly afford.
The salesmen are there to do a job. That job is sale. Above and beyond anything else, that is their main objective. Do not think they are your friend. Do not tell them your life story. Be professional and businesslike and stick to your objective.
Another thing I would suggest when looking/shopping is to start early in the day. The car buying process can be long and arduous. If you have children I would leave them at home with a spouse or relative. This process can be a bit over-stimulating to young children. Also make sure to bring all the documentation you may need with you to speed up the process. This may include check stubs, bank statements, tax returns, etc.
Now, you have gotten that ride you wanted. You need insurance. Oh yeah, don't forget that. Before you even get to drive it away you will want to make sure that baby is well insured. Make sure to add this to any monies you planned to have going out during this process. It can suck big time to get there, find that one, have all your paperwork done and no funds left. Surprisingly though people can tend to forget this.
Many people do not know going in that your bank can be your biggest friend at this time. Ask them about financing. You can sometimes get better rates through them than through the companies the dealer uses. Use your leverage. If you are a customer in good standing with your financial institution, bargain with them. That's right, bargain, haggle, etc. They do not want to lose you as a customer so this can work to your benefit.
Now that you have all your ducks in a row it's time to go out there and see what kind of deals you can find. You got a picture of those cars in your head. Great! Now, go shopping. - 21396
