Used Car Donation - Where Do You Begin?

By Daniel Gulberry

Despite seeming daunting and fairly complex, used car donation is a pretty straightforward process. Obviously you will need a car or truck that is no longer being used, and you are actually willing to donate to a charity group. Then you will need to think about a few things.

Is the vehicle in good condition? The last thing you want to have happen is give a decrepit vehicle to a group the helps disadvantaged people. They will be angry if it falls apart mid trip. You also do not want to donate a car if it needs extensive maintenance, or expensive repairs.

Who needs the car the most? This isn't an easy question to answer to yourself, but vital if you want your donation to do the most good. Why should I even bother? Because there are a lot of disadvantaged folk who could use a reliable vehicle. Besides, if you have one you no longer need, its just taking up space.

Finally the most important question. To whom should I give it? You've compiled your lists of charities that need a car from churches, to community outreach programs. But in the end you only have one vehicle, and you can only give it to one organizations regardless of how much they all need one. If you want to try to make an impact internationally, then give it to Greenpeace, or someone fighting international problems.

Not only can you donate a car to a charity organization, you can also donate a car to a person in need. With the current global recession in full swing, there are many folk who need a car to seek work, or people who have been foreclosed on. Also, in good or bad times, college students are always in need of a roadworthy vehicle.

University students can always use an operating vehicle if they do not already have one of their own. Or you could give it to a friend in need. Barring any of these you can also give it to a destitute person, whole families can live out of car if they have to.

Now, if by some chance donating out of the kindness of your heart doesn't motivate you, there are incentives. Some charities will give you cash. Government programs may also give you cash, or a tax credit. However giving out of the milk of human kindness and not seeking, or taking any recognition for the donation can make you feel good.

If you can't choose which charity organization is the most worthy, why not donate it to your city? One of the drains on the city's accounts is the cost of running errands around the city. This will help save the city money. This money can be put to other uses, such as schools. By doing this the whole community benefits from your car donation.

To whom you donate the vehicle to is totally up to you, just make sure that you check the shape of the car before you donate it. You definitely don't want to donate a vehicle that turns out to be a lemon. - 21396
