Chevy Cobalt performance

By James Conaller

One of GM's top performers continues to be the Chevy Cobalt, having replaced their 2004 Cavalier.

The Chevy Cobalt Models

The Chevy Cobalt 2009 is available in three models, the LS, LT and SS turbo. All three are also available as both a two-door or four-door sedan. The LS is available in both manual and automatic shift transmission. It's also the entry level model. Only produced as an automatic, the LT is the more advanced sedan for being the small luxury car. It also comes with heated leather seats, anti lock brakes and traction control features. The SS turbo models is the one with the higher end performance, having better handling. Consumers looking for a small car with excellent handling will be pleased by the SS turbo models.

Chevy Cobalt Performance

The Chevy Cobalt SS turbo is the one with the best performance of the three. It has a 22/30 (automatic) mpg gas mileage, which is a good mileage for a car its size and price tag. Besides fog lights, body cladding, polished alloy wheels and chrome exhaust tip, the Chevy Cobalt SS turbo also includes a rear spoiler and rocker panels. Many love the car for its sporty look.

SS Turbo

The 2.0 liter turbo-charged 260 hp four cylinder engine is an excellent economical engine. As said before, the Chevy Cobalt SS turbo has the best performance of the three. One of the differences with the LT and LS models is that the SS turbo only comes with a five speed transmission. The LT and LS models have both the four and five automatic transmission. The Chevy Cobalt SS turbo doesn't have many problems and is a nice looking car with excellent handling. This makes it the top choice of many consumers.

The Future Chevy Cobalt 2011

Many changes will come to the 2011 Chevy Cobalt, currently known as the Cruze. The Chevy Cobalt automatics currently have a 4 gear transmission, which will be upgraded to a 5 gear transmission. The manuals will go one up too, going from a 5 gear to a 6 gear transmission. The design of the car will be improved but will keep its sporty feel. Next to all this, the engine is widely expected. The 1.4 liter turbo-charged engine is something many car consumers are looking forward to.

The 2011 Chevy Cobalt might not see the daylight. It's a matter of waiting if GM can survive the current economy. Assuming it will come, the new design of the car will resemble the both well received Chevy Malibu and the current Chevy Cobalt. Smooth, sporty looks and a cunning wheel base should give the new 2011 Chevy Cobalt a long lifespan. At least, if GM can survive the bad economy the current American automotive industry is experiencing. - 21396
