Helpful Tips For A Power Supply

By Amanda Leer

Most of the power supplied by batteries is direct current supply. Even in the car, the power is supplied in direct current. Hence the music and stereo players are constructed in such a way that they work in direct current. Some of these systems may be portable and can be used at home. In such cases they need to be played in alternating current since AC is used domestically. It is not possible to play a music player from a car in alternating current supply. Therefore a converter is used. There are numerous types of this converter. One such converter that we use to do this is a converter with thumb screw connections. It involves simply changing the connections between the converter and the electronic devise. How to wire an AC to DC converter is shown in this article.

But these convertors can be used only when you are in need of power in DC like components of a car audio system and other parts of it. A standard household power is required for it to access the DC output power. Wiring of this AC to DC converter consists of several steps which are simple in carrying out. Few initial preparatory steps and simple wiring connection can give a good AC to DC converter. A proper wiring can ensure the perfect functioning of this converter. The reason for doing this is to get a stable DC output.

A few required tools for performing this operation includes crimping tool, wire strippers to remove excess wire and ring terminal. With the help of these tools the required man power can be reduced to a greater extent. By turning the thumb screws and wing nuts of the power terminals of the DC converter to left, they can be loosened and thus removed.

The device that needs to connected to AC to DC converter is taken out . The device has both positive and negative wires . We need to strip off the insulation . The insulation is usually around half inch. In most of the cases the positive wire will be colored red and the negative wire will be colored black . However it is necessary to ensure this. So read the manual carefully and study the working diagrams of the device to check this.

The next step involves the usage of ring terminals. A ring terminal is slid off onto each wire's bare ends.

The AC to DC converter has both positive and negative terminals . To this positive and negative wires are connected respectively . It is necessary that the these connections are tight. Use wing nuts and thumb screws to make them tight.

The last step is the AC plug has to be plugged to the outlet of the wall. The DC device needs power which is provided by the AC to DC converter . So switch on the converter after making all the wiring and connections properly. Do not make an attempt to switch on the AC to DC converter till all wiring and connections are completed or else it may cause damage to the equipment. Put the protective cover on to the appliance.

The above instructions on How to wire an AC to DC converter are easy and need prior supervision. It is also necessary to make sure that all the connections are made properly before the converter is turned on. The wiring is simple and can be done if some basic concepts of connections are known. - 21396
