4 Ways to Improve Fuel Efficiency in Our Cars

By Joseph Archibald

Fuel efficiency in cars is now (if it was not before) a huge concern for both car manufacturers and for motorists. With fairly recent hikes in the cost of fuel sports car and muscle car enthusiasts are not alone in their frustrations at meeting continuing rises in costs to keep their cars on the road. However, with this continuing rise comes a new breed of car.

More and more people are now in search for fuel efficient cars. While in the past, car enthusiasts pride on how fast their cars can go and how huge their engines are, nowadays, better mileage and fuel efficiency has become everyone's priority. Saving fuel is a difficult feat. But since transport is a necessity, how can you save fuel while still enjoying the car? What things can you do to be able to make sure that your car burn fuel very efficiently?

* Its good policy to know how fuel efficient your car is so keep tabs on how much fuel you put in your car each time you fill up at the pump and compare that to the mileage you are getting. This way, if there is a drop in previous fuel efficiency you can then consult your mechanic and tackle the issue early on.

You can also consider putting additives into your gas tank. There are several brands of additives now available in the market and some of them claim to successfully increase a car's fuel efficiency up to ten and twenty percent. These additives are non toxic and non-fossil based and will give your car a longer driving potential, since it will make your car more fuel efficient.

* You can also consider changing the air filters of your car. It is often important for your air filters to match with your car model. Replacing the spark plugs, as well as the wires that connect with the battery can also increase the fuel efficiency of your car. As spark plugs wear out easily, it is important to check it every now and then since worn out spark plugs can decrease your car's fuel efficiency.

* Replace your cars oil at regular intervals and ensure you are using the correct oil for optimum efficiency. Also, replace the oil filter at regular intervals too.

* Make sure your tire pressure is correct for the type of car you have. Regularly check the pressures and do not just assume its going to be correct after hundreds or thousands of miles of driving. Added to this is that the correct tire pressure will help keep your tires in good condition. Its possible that if your tires are at the wrong pressure you may lose control when driving at speed. So there are three very good reasons to make the effort to regularly check out those pressures. - 21396
