Go Nuts with Luxury Car Rental

By Stevie Raye Bejourn

Will your next holiday include a luxury car rental? If so, you need to make sure that you know what to ask and what to do before you sign anything, to prevent yourself from running into a nasty surprise or a real problem. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure that your luxury car hire is a pleasant one.

The first thing you need to know is what kind of car you want and what it's going to require. High end vehicles, like luxury cars and sports cars, might cost more than you'd think in extra insurance requirements and special charges. Look carefully at your rental agreement before you sign off on any rental car.

This agreement should include important information about what you're paying, the vehicle you're renting, and the times and dates you'll have it for. You should examine the rental rate to make sure there are no hidden fees, find out what's included and what's specifically excluded, and make sure you learn about any special rules that come with a luxury car hire compared to an ordinary one.

Learn what the procedure is should you break down, find out how many kilometers you can drive per day, according to the contract, and all appropriate insurance requirements. Make sure the contract clearly states how many kilometers are already on the car before you leave, and make sure that's recorded again when you bring it back, to prevent you from running into unjust charges later.

Know the details of your insurance coverage, including any exclusions, the liability limit, and whether you need to pay more to cover any additional drivers. Find out the procedure for an accident, and your responsibilities if one happens. Learn what the rental company is responsible for, too.

Make sure you have all your personal documentation with you when you come to rent the car, including a valid driving license for the area, international identification, such as a passport, and a good credit card or enough cash to cover the rental. Make sure you understand that paying with cash means you'll need to leave a large deposit with the agency. Different companies will have different rules, and you should learn about them in advance.

Before signing the paperwork for any vehicle, you'll need to make sure it doesn't have an undocumented damage that you might be charged for after you bring it back to the lot. All problems should be noted in the rental agreement, and all emergency supplies, tools, and spare parts should be in the car when you leave. You'll also need to check the fuel level before you leave and when you come back, and learn what fuel is appropriate for the luxury car you rent.

Know what to do if something goes wrong with your service and you need to complain. Most luxury car rentals won't end up being a problem, but not every time is perfect, and not all vehicles will be up to standard. Learn who to complain to and what to do, and most agencies will want to fix the problem immediately. - 21396
