The Wide World Of Garage Floor Mats

By Matt Florrence

Garage floor mats will provide you with some of the most variable options for your garage floor as there are many various types of materials and patterns to choose from. Be sure to do lots of research so that you know that you're getting the type of mat that's going to work best for you since there are so many to decide from. The cheapest types of garage floor mat will pretty much have no pattern. As you go up in price, you'll see more complicated patterns that are designed with function in mind such as traction or directing water and debris out of the garage and more decorative type mats such as diamond and coin shapes.

Garage Floor Mats Are Easy To Install

In general, garage floor mats are installed simply by cutting the mat to fit the garage floor using scissors or a utility knife. As far as installations go, this is about as easy as it gets. Many mats can even be connected at the edges if they are of that type, and some can be overlapped for a seamless look so that they can come back apart if needed for easy cleaning as there are no adhesives holding them together; just friction. If used correctly, not only will garage floor mats channel liquid and debris out of the garage for easier cleanup, but they can also help protect both the concrete and the soil around your garage from contamination.

Cushy Garage Floor Mats

Walking, standing, and working is much more comfortable on a garage floor mat as they are cushioned for comfort. Their coating prohibits them from absorbing chemicals or liquids, and they emit a fresh scent that will keep the garage smelling nice. Generally lasting years, garage floor mats are ultra durable, second only to an epoxy kit. They're also anti-conductive, as well as anti-static. If a single mat does not provide enough cushion, they are designed to be laid double, either across the entire garage floor, or just where the extra cushion is needed, such as under a car where you may be laying on your back, or on the sides where a mechanic will typically have to do some kneeling. The cold, hard concrete can make any repair job seem longer and harder, and the extra padding provided by a garage floor mat can help with that.

Garage Floor Mats Are Cheap

In comparison to most garage floor coverings, mats are very reasonably priced. Many vendors even offset the costs by offering free shipping and since the mats are sort of a one size fits all where you just cut it to fit your garage, they pretty much always have them in stock.

Garage Floor Mats Are Tough

Although durable enough that they're not likely to be ruined, garage floor mats are likely your best option if you plan to do lots of work in your garage and would like the ability to throw them out if they do take damage. The only type of garage floor solution that is more durable is epoxy, and the only type that is more mobile are containment mats. Garage floor mats are easier to drive on than containment mats, and are obviously easier to install than epoxy. - 21396
