The Jeep Wrangler... The Smart And Fun Way To Go
A compact 4x4 sports utility vehicle was born in 1987. This vehicle is the Jeep Wrangler. Jeeps have been around since World War II and become American icons. Jeeps are rugged off road vehicles originally intended to be military vehicles. Civilian jeeps, CJ's, were inspired by the rugged workhorse military jeeps, paving the way for the birth of the Wrangler.
The Jeep Wrangler being a versatile vehicle appealed to both the on road and off road enthusiast. Unlike the CJ, the Wrangler exhibited lower ground clearance, wider wheel base and best of all comfort. These modern enhancements made the Wrangler more attractive to a larger consumer base.
The live axels in both front and back mimicked the original CJ design. The Wrangler design was easily recognized as a workhorse and its off road ruggedness. The Wrangler was designed and founded by AMC in 1987. After the unveiling of the Wrangler, AMC sold out to Chrysler, who then created the Jeep Division. The Wrangler was originally manufactured in Ontario Canada until the plant shut down in 1992. Manufacturing was then transferred to the Toledo Ohio plants where Wranglers are now generated from.
In 1997 Chrysler then redesigned the classic Wrangler adding additional features. The new features included a wider track width, lower center of gravity, higher ground clearance and anti-sway bars. The Wrangler held true to its original round headlight design but became more consumer friendly by become a better ride and added handling capabilities.
The next redesign of the Wrangler took place in 2007, adding even more consumer friendly revisions and making it more off-road compatible. The Wrangler was now offered in two and four door styles. The classic two door styling held true to its shorter style therefore appealing to the off road enthusiast. The all new four door style with the larger body type appealed to the other consumers.
