The Importance Of Drivers Ed For Your Child

By John Robertson

When your kids are turning into semi-adults, it's time to think about the future. It used to be that your kids could take drivers education through their high schools. In fact, in the old days, it was mandatory. While parents didn't know much about drivers ed, they knew that it was a good thing, and were very happy to have their kids learning how to drive.

Sure the cost of owning automobiles has gone up. That could be one reason that drivers ed is no longer taught in schools. Between the purchase price, the gasoline and the insurance, most school districts would probably go bankrupt trying to cover everyone at the schools. This in mind, it's time to look for a good school that won't rob you blind when you need to get your child behind the wheel.

One of the first and most important things that I remember learning in drivers ed is that driving is a privilege, not a right. It is of key importance that our children realize this, as well. With the high prices at the gas pump, kids just can't go running around the countryside like we used to. Most drivers ed classes are now offered through schools that teach defensive driving courses to individuals who have had tickets or accidents.

Drivers ed will teach your children the rules and laws of your federal, state and local highway systems. They will learn all of the important signals and behaviors that a driver should exhibit. They will be well versed in things like right of way, four way stops and parking in different situations. They will become familiar with all local and nationwide signage, as well.

What will your child need to do about drivers ed? There are courses in every area of the country that are being offered these days. You can even sign your child up for an online drivers ed class, though that just doesn't seem possible to fathom. Your child will learn all of the state and local laws regarding traffic when they attend drivers ed.

There will be tests and quizzes throughout the drivers ed course, just like in a normal classroom setting. Your child will be expected to be prepared for class every day and to pass all tests and quizzes that they take in order to continue to the next step of the drivers ed course.

Your child will get behind the car of a vehicle that is equipped with dual controls so that the drivers education instructor is always in control of the situation. Whenever they feel that a student is making errors, they will instruct them to right the course. If they do not feel that this is possible, they will shut off the controls for the student's side of the car and safely stop the vehicle.

When you need to find out about drivers ed in your area, the quickest and easiest way to learn about schools is to search online. When you're waiting to get your child behind the wheel of a car, the quickest way to get them up to speed is by taking a drivers ed course through a local, accredited academy. - 21396
