How to Protect Any Vehicles Leather Interior

By Luke Lister

The leather seats in your automobile are beautiful, comfortable and help to preserve the value of your vehicle. Car leather protection done properly will keep them looking like new for years to come. To preserve and protect your car leather, there are a few simple tips you will need to consider. Everyday wear and tear will not affect the leather when you take the protection steps.

Today's market is flooded with leather protection products. The one that you choose will depend on your own personal preference. What you will need to consider is being sure to choose one that is a non-drying leather cleaner. The purpose of the cleaner is to remove everyday dirt. A rich conditioner for leather needs to be applied after cleaning to seal in the all important moisture which keeps it luxuriously soft.

When you are choosing your products, those containing natural ingredients are always a wise and safer choice. For example, you will want a product that lists UV protectants, lanolin and mink oil as the ingredients. When leather gets dried out and damaged, it takes a lot of time and money to restore it to its original beauty. Cleaning and conditioning your leather on a regular basis does not take much time or money. In fact, you might consider using a combination product so that the cleaning and conditioning become one step.

The leather of your car is much like the skin of your body. It needs to be cleaned and moisturized on a regular basis to prevent it from becoming permanently cracked, aged looking and dried out. This will happen much quicker in areas of the country that have very hot temperatures.

Tip No. 1 to consider: Your car's leather needs to be cleaned often and the product you use needs to be free of any silicone oils, solvents or gloss agents. Never scrub the leather but using a small brush to gently agitate the pores of the fabric is a key factor. It is like exfoliating the pores of your skin, it opens the pores of the leather allowing it to absorb the cleaner and protectant that you apply to moisturize the leather. Keeping the leather supple will prevent it from ever becoming so brittle it forms cracks in its surface. Never use paper towels to whip your leather.

Tip No. Two is to find a product that lists a balanced pH factor designed for leather. This will not only keep your leather seats looking like new but will protect the leather against stains and water damage. Leather has natural oils and over time the oils will evaporate. If the leather does start to have an odor it is due to the depletion of the oils. The conditioner will correct this problem.

Tip No. Three is about the damage that can happen if you do not protect your leather seats from the rays of the sun. When your vehicle is a convertible, this is extremely important. The direct sunlight will dry the leather quickly so use a sun protector on your windshield and do not park your car in the sun if possible. Use your conditioner to keep the leather moisturized and alternate treatments with a 303 sun-block protectant product.

Car leather protection is an easy process and by using these simple tips you will have leather that looks new for a long time. All it takes is a simple cleaning and conditioning for effective protection. Your car will thank you. - 21396
